Buffalo Bills News, 2/3: Andre Reed's Long Hall Wait Continues

Media and fans react to Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed missing out on the Hall of Fame for the eighth time.

"But you have to wonder if Reed's chances are dwindling. After being turned down as a finalist seven times, it's clear the Hall of Fame committee views Reed as a very good receiver but not a Hall of Famer."

This is one of those articles that make me want to swear on this blog. Apparently James Walker thinks Lynn Swann, Mike Ditka, Jim Ringo, Don Maynard, Jack Youngblood, John Stallworth, Art Monk, Tom Mack, Paul Hornung, Carl Eller and Lynn Swann aren't Hall of Famers, too. All of those folks were elected after their eighth year of eligibility. Walker's headline is certainly valid, but to say that the Hall of Fame committee "doesn't view Reed as a Hall of Famer" is flat-out wrong. You can make the point that a large contingent of first-year eligible players will diminish the likelihood of Reed gaining enshrinement, because that's a valid argument.

"With the logjam broken it would seem that Reed is the odds on favorite among receivers to advance the furthest next year. The bad news is even though a receiver has been taken out of the mix in Carter, another will be added next year as Marvin Harrison will be a first-year eligible."
