2013 NFL Draft results: Buffalo Bills pick Duke Williams

The Bills had a need at safety, and they've added a highly physical one with their top pick of day three.

With the No. 105 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have selected Nevada safety Duke Williams.

The name of Williams' game is physicality. He's an excellent athlete for starters - the 5'11", 203-pound senior runs a sub-4.5 second 40-yard dash and had a 37.5-inch vertical jump at the Combine in February - and he fits the mold of an aggressive, hard-hitting downhill safety to play at the back end of Mike Pettine's defense.

In his four-year career with the Wolfpack, Williams recorded 269 tackles and four interceptions. He was not the biggest playmaker in the passing game, but he's athletic enough to get by in deep coverage, has enough size to drop down and cover on occasion, and he'll be excellent in run support. Even better: he'll add to the Bills' special teams units, where he could become an impact player much like last year's fourth-round pick, linebacker Nigel Bradham.

There are some long-dormant, alcohol-related character concerns with Williams, who was suspended three times as a freshman. Much like second-round pick linebacker Kiko Alonso, those issues are years in the past, but it's still a bit interesting to see the Bills take multiple players that aren't squeaky clean off the field.

Buffalo had a crying need for depth at safety heading into Saturday, and they addressed it with their top pick in the round. They'll pick next at No. 143 overall in the fifth round.
