Buffalo's Draft Through Jerry Jones' Eyes

I'm not a Jerry Jones fan. I've disliked him pretty much since he bought the Cowboys for a multitude of reasons, not even counting the fact that the Cowboys beat Buffalo twice in Super Bowls. There was a story about the Cowboys draft that caught my eye. Apparently, Jerry Jones has twice inadvertently allowed his (he is the GM) draft board to become public. Basically, he's publicity hungry to the point that he's willing to give interviews while standing in front of it.

Anyway, after looking at his board it's pretty clear that Jones doesn't think much of Buffalo's draft.

QB Manuel: Buffalo took him in the first; Dallas had a 4th round grade on him

WR Woods: Buffalo took him in the second; Dallas didn't have him on their board at all

LB Alonso: Buffalo took him in the second; Dallas had a 4th round grade on him

WR Goodwin: Buffalo took him in the 3rd; Dallas had a 6th round grade on him

DB Williams: Buffalo took him in the 4th, Dallas didn't have him on their board at all

DB Meeks: Buffalo took him in the 5th; Dallas had a 6th round grade on him.

K Hopkins: Buffalo took him in the 6th; Dallas didn't have any kickers on their board at all

TE Gragg: Buffalo took him in the 7th; Dallas didn't have him on their board at all

So, in Jerry World, it looks like the Bills came away with a pair of 4th rounders, a pair of 6th rounders and several UDFA candidates. The good news is that Jones hasn't exactly been the league's best GM in terms of drafting so I suspect that even if we go with the worst possible case (Manuel a total bust, Goodwin a track star that can't make the move to football, Alonso getting pushed around) that the Bills did better than Jones' board would suggest.

It was interesting to see that Jones had apparently left guys with injury and character concerns completely off of his board. He's talked about regretting his decision to pass on Randy Moss (for LB Greg Ellis) but maybe the Dez Bryant experience has brought him back around to valuing guys who won't do stupid off field things that could limit their availability on Sundays.

I post this mainly because I think it's fascinating to look at an actual NFL draft board. These aren't theories or reports but actual draft boards. Make sure you scroll down to look at the rankings regardless of position; he only had 18 players with 1st round grades.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
