Buffalo Bills news, 6/6: Doug Legursky poised for run at starting job

Does Doug Legursky have the inside track at the Bills' starting left guard job?

Jason Bridge-US PRESSWIRE
Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

C-G Doug Legursky signed by Bills - BuffaloBills.com

"The center-guard expects to compete for the starting left guard competition that has no incumbent starter returning from last season following the free agent departure of Andy Levitre as well as spot starter Chad Rinehart. To this point the competition has included Colin Brown, rookie Zach Chibane, Chris Scott, Thomas Welch and Sam Young."

Not only did Chris Brown write that sentence, the team's website went all out with Legursky. General manager Doug Whaley's picture was in the article and Chris Brown did a one-on-one interview (below). The team doesn't do that when they sign depth players. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the team seems to be featuring Legursky as a legitimate option for some heavy playing time.

"I think it’s using my brain, being a cerebral type player," Legursky told Buffalobills.com when asked what has made him successful at the NFL level. "Thinking through stuff, trying to know what the defense is doing at all times and knowing what we need to do to execute plays right. Then using my technique as well. I’ve always tried to be a technician as much as possible. Those two things combined have helped me to be the player that I am."
