A week and a half before training camp, Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly says if he had to pick the Bills starting QB for this year, he’d go with the veteran.

Kelly weighed in on the quarterback battle between veteran Kevin Kolb and first round draft pick EJ Manuel Thursday night, in an appearance on The John Murphy Show.

“I’ve been to a couple of practices,” Kelly said. “If I had to give a nod, I really would look more towards Kevin Kolb right now. And the reason I say that is, he’s a veteran. He’s been through it. He knows what to look at.”

All due respect, Jimbo, but . . . I recall you once said that Ryan Fitzpatrick was "the right guy", too -- and we all saw how well that turned out.

Simply because Kolb is "a veteran" is no reason, by itself, to give him automatic preference as the starting QB. He may "know what to look at", but unless he knows how to defeat what he's looking at, that ability won't do much good -- and given his record as a starter (9-12), I don't have much confidence that he can . . .
