Kevin Kolb will start at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills when they host the Minnesota Vikings in Friday night's second preseason game, head coach Doug Marrone told reporters on Wednesday night. E.J. Manuel, who started Sunday's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, will be the second man through.
Marrone indicated that the original plan was to have Kolb start against Indianapolis and Manuel against Minnesota, but that the plan was flipped when Kolb missed last week due predominantly to a death in the family.
Kolb returned to full-team activities on Monday, and now has three practices under his belt since his return. He has had a fairly strong week of practice and is showing little rust after his week away, per Marrone. A strong outing with the ones could quickly bring Kolb back into the conversation for the starting job, despite the prevalent notion that Manuel currently leads the race for that role.
Manuel completed 16-of-21 passes for 107 yards with a touchdown and added 28 rushing yards on four carries in last week's win over Indy. Jeff Tuel, meanwhile, will once again be relegated to third-team work.
