Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel had successful surgery on his injured left knee on Sunday morning and has been given a 2-4 week timetable for his recovery, according to Peter Schrager of FOXSports.com. Bills head coach Doug Marrone confirmed the procedure - as well as the fact that he'll miss the remainder of the preseason - but did not rule him out for Week 1 against the New England Patriots.
Marrone also told reporters on Sunday morning that the team will not be bringing in a fourth quarterback for the remainder of the preseason, meaning that Kevin Kolb and Jeff Tuel will split reps for the next two weeks. Clearly, the team is not too concerned about Manuel's long-term prognosis; Marrone believes that once the preseason is up, Manuel will be day-to-day.
Manuel, the team's first-round pick in April, had completed 27-of-33 passes for 199 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 111.9 quarterback rating through 61 preseason snaps this season. Kolb will start the team's two remaining preseason games, and with Manuel out for at least those two weeks, he has a good chance of opening the season as the starter - particularly if he puts together a couple of solid performances in Washington and at home against Detroit.
