Buffalo Bills news, 8/27: Jairus Byrd, Matt Leinart speak to reporters

We break down the seismic stories from One Bills Drive on Monday. Jairus Byrd talks to reporters, Kevin Kolb is out for some time, C.J. Gilmore out 6-8 weeks with fractured wrist - BuffaloBills.com
"He was bailing on a slant (route by the receiver) and then coming up to make the play and I think there was a collision somewhere in the second quarter," said Marrone. "Then he wound up playing more after that and then the pain took over once the adrenaline of playing wore down."

Marrone: Planning on Jeff Tuel to start Week 1 - BuffaloBills.com
"Right now we’re planning on Jeff Tuel playing the first game and we’re working with EJ to get back as quickly as possible," said Marrone Monday. "Meaning New England. Right now that’s how we’re going about planning on doing it until we know more about where EJ is."

"It’s just the business side, it’s what I’ve learned," said Byrd. "It’s disappointing, but it’s just business. At the end of the day, it is what it is. That’s the business side of things. They see things one way, we see it another way. You let your agent handle things like that. Now I’m back here. It’s just football."

C.J. Spiller excused to tend to family - BuffaloBills.com
"I talked to him when we landed from the Washington game and I excused him to be able to go back (home) and handle his personal situation," said Marrone. "I don’t have anything more to report than really what I said before as far as what has been in the paper. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims as well as C.J. and his family."

Kevin Kolb out indefinitely with concussion - BuffaloBills.com
"The alarming thing to me was the report that was out there that he might not ever play again," said Marrone. "I had a conversation with Kevin this morning and he’s not even near close to that process of making that type of decision. He’s told me that he has not even discussed or thought about not playing anymore. He’s not even in that thought process right now. He’s really in the process of clearing up the concussion."

"If someone has an injury someone has to go in and be able to play and be ready to go," said Marrone. "I would definitely view this situation as adversity so it’s interesting to see to me because I think true character does come out whether it’s management, coaches, players to see how we’re dealing with it. Now you don’t like to deal with it, but it is what it is."
