Bills vs. Patriots Week 1 injury report: Jairus Byrd doubtful

The Buffalo Bills, as expected, are very likely to be without Jairus Byrd when they take on the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The Buffalo Bills have wrapped up their final practice of the week, and as Friday is injury report day, those details are beginning to emerge. Most notably, free safety Jairus Byrd - battling plantar fasciitis in both feet - will be listed as doubtful, according to head coach Doug Marrone.

Three players that did not practice all week - center Doug Legursky (knee), cornerback Stephon Gilmore (wrist) and kicker Dustin Hopkins (groin) - have all been ruled out. E.J. Manuel (knee), who has practiced in full since Monday, is listed as probable, but has already been named the team's starting quarterback for Week 1 against the New England Patriots.

If Byrd does not play, which is looking very likely, then Aaron Williams, Da'Norris Searcy and the newly signed Jim Leonhard will play a lot. Williams will start, and while it's more likely than not that Searcy will line up beside him on most downs, Leonhard could eat into his playing time a bit, and will bump him down into the box in three-safety looks.

Dan Carpenter will handle the kicking duties in place of Hopkins, and Sam Young will serve as the reserve guard on Sunday. Should the team require a center, it's likely that either of the team's starting guards, Kraig Urbik and Colin Brown (who both have experience at the position), would kick over into the pivot.
