Bills vs. Jets, 2014 NFL Week 8: first half live game chat

Will the Buffalo Bills be 5-3 heading into next weekend's bye, right in the thick of the AFC playoff race, or 4-4, 1-2 in the division and facing long playoff odds coming out of the bye? Today's game will decide all of that. We're talking about it here.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

This time next week, the Buffalo Bills will be on their bye week. Today's road game against the New York Jets, therefore, looms large in deciding what the Bills' 2014 season will feel like at the halfway point this time next week.

Either the Bills will win today, moving to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the AFC East, or they'll lose, dropping to 4-4 and 1-2 in the division. Clearly, one of those two outcomes bodes much better for the team's playoff chances, particularly with New England re-assuming their command over the AFC East.

Buffalo has lost four straight games to the Jets in MetLife Stadium by an average score of 35-20, and are coming off of back-to-back games in which they have turned the football over seven times and seen quarterback Kyle Orton sacked 11 times. They are missing their top two running backs, Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller, and are making a switch at left guard. Because of all of that, the 1-6 Jets - losers of six straight - are favored at home against the above-.500 Bills, and a popular pick to win today.

This is your open thread to discuss the first half of today's ultra-important Bills game. Let's see if they can't stay above .500 heading into the break, shall we? Go Bills!
