With the No. 109 overall pick (fourth round) in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have selected Duke cornerback Ross Cockrell.
Cockrell was one of Duke's defensive captains and had a good week at the Shrine Game in January. He has greatly improved his 40-yard dash time this offseason, unofficially clocking under 4.4 at his pro day. He is known for being physical with receivers at the line of scrimmage, as well. Cockrell fits the template for what the Bills like in defensive backs: big and tough, and he adds ball skills and strong character to the equation, as well. He adds much-needed size and depth to the Bills' cornerback situation, could project to safety over the long haul as well, and will play special teams as a rookie.
Buffalo has made four picks so far in the 2014 NFL Draft, and all four - wideout Sammy Watkins, tackle Cyrus Kouandjio, linebacker Preston Brown, and now Cockrell - made a pre-draft visit with the team this spring.
This was the first of four picks that the Bills are scheduled to make today. They have two coming up in the fifth round; stay tuned!
