Buffalo Bills sign Xavius Boyd, waive Darrin Kitchens

In need of bodies at linebacker for training camp practices, the Bills waived/injured Darrin Kitchens on Tuesday, replacing him with fellow 2014 undrafted free agent Xavius Boyd.

Buffalo Bills rookie linebacker Darrin Kitchens was injured during a Monday afternoon training camp practice, and after missing Tuesday morning's session, the Bills have designated him as waived/injured. He is now off of the Bills' 90-man roster, and has been replaced by undrafted free agent linebacker Xavius Boyd.

A Western Kentucky product, the 6'2", 239-pound Boyd was a member of the 2014 NFL Draft class, but was not selected. He became one of 17 undrafted free agents signed by the Baltimore Ravens, but they let go of him in late June after Boyd pulled a hamstring during spring OTAs. A solid athlete (4.8 in the 40, 32-inch vert, 9'11" broad, 21 bench reps), Boyd finished his four-year career in the Sun Belt with 258 tackles, 9.5 sacks (including 7.5 as a senior), three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and an interception.

The swapping of linebackers leaves the Bills with 10 on their 90-man roster, eight (including Boyd) of which will be healthy enough to participate in camp practices. The two sitting out: Kiko Alonso, he of the torn left ACL, and seventh-round draft pick Randell Johnson.
