When the Buffalo Bills fired head coach Rex Ryan, the players were on their day off and found out the news on Twitter like many of us. Many shared their thoughts and responses immediately:
Cornerback Ronald Darby
Defensive lineman Leger Douzable
Makes no sense. Smh— Leger Douzable (@LegerDouzable) December 27, 2016
We let Rex down as players. Smh— Leger Douzable (@LegerDouzable) December 27, 2016
I'm tired of people talking about the 17 year drought REX was here for 2 of those years hard to build a winner if the coach changes every— Leger Douzable (@LegerDouzable) December 27, 2016

Modern day owner and GM, everyone thinks they can do better if that's the case work your way up from a bottom level scout or coach or shutup https://t.co/t9kCr1o8XV— Leger Douzable (@LegerDouzable) December 27, 2016
You know when coaches come in they bring in their own system, and that take times for guys to learn and buy in, we were top 5 D in NY https://t.co/tFOtQwxpfu— Leger Douzable (@LegerDouzable) December 27, 2016
Douzable was with Rex in New York for Ryan’s final two seasons as head coach before coming to Buffalo this season. Douzable makes a few good points on the drought and Rex’s short tenure. His most telling though is that he feels that the players let Rex down. I, and probably most fans, would have it the other way.

There is much more in the Facebook post that Josina Anderson linked in that tweet. I recommend reading it all.
Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin
Nothing but love for Rex ! This man believed in me 1OO% & NEVER doubted me & my ability. He fully supported me in my attempt to make my second Olympic team, allowing me to miss the entire off-season. Thanks for that, and because of your trust in me I will have an opportunity to play many more years in this league. ✊
Marquise Goodwin is the first active offensive player to chime in. He does owe a lot to Rex. I am not sure how many coaches would allow their 3rd receiver to skip the whole offseason. Goodwin also had his best season this year mostly due to staying healthy, but also because Rex kept him around.
