Super Bowl 50 live chat: second quarter open thread

The Denver Broncos lead the Carolina Panthers, 10-0, after the first quarter of Super Bowl 50, with Von Miller's sack-strip of Cam Newton - recovered for a score by Malik Jackson - serving as the big play thus far.

That was a rough first quarter of Super Bowl 50 for the Carolina Panthers.

On the opening possession of the game, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos quickly drove down the field, and though that drive stalled, the Broncos took a quick 3-0 lead.

After both offenses exchanged punts, Cam Newton threw a pass down the seam that hit Jerricho Cotchery in the hands for a 24-yard gain - only, Cotchery didn't secure the catch and control through hitting the ground, and the play was called incomplete (even after a Carolina challenge).

Soon thereafter, Newton was sacked deep in Panthers territory by Von Miller, who then ripped the ball out of Newton's arms. Broncos defensive lineman Malik Jackson recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown, and Denver took a 10-0 lead.

That's the situation for Carolina as they open the second quarter with possession of the ball, looking to strike back for the first time in the game.
