2016 NFL mock draft: Taylor Decker to Detroit Lions

New, comments

The Atlanta Falcons, and general manager KyleCop, are now on the clock!

With the sixteenth pick in the 2016 Buffalo Rumblings Community Mock, the Detroit Lions, and general manager Dana H, have selected Taylor Decker, offensive tackle from Ohio State. Here's what he had to say about the pick:

When making this pick the easy thing to do would have been to take Laquon Treadwell and be done with it. With the retirement of Calvin Johnson this has been a very popular mock pick to the Lions. But it wouldn't fill a real need. In free agency the Lions brought in Marvin Jones and Jeremy Kerley to go along with Golden Tate, Eric Ebron, and running back Theo Riddick. That is already a lot of mouths to feed the ball to. While none of those names are marquee, I saw no need to waste a high pick on a WR in a shallow class.

I decided to do some more research and came to the realization that offensive line is their biggest weakness. The Lions running game really struggled to produce while Stafford often had little time in the pocket to make throws. Since the Lions addressed the interior of the O-line, I decided to address the tackle position. With this pick, I took Taylor Decker from Ohio State. It's not a flashy pick but it fills a big need.

I did strongly debate taking one of the defensive ends or Cody Whitehair at Guard but with the defensive depth of this draft I feel confident I can address the D-line in Round 2.

The Atlanta Falcons are now on the clock. Remember, when it's your turn to submit a draft choice, email it to dan.r.lavoie+sbnation@gmail.com.
