Bills-Giants: Five questions, five answers from Big Blue View

Previewing the Giants with Ed Valentine of Big Blue View.

NFL: New York Giants at Buffalo Bills Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

With the Giants coming to town for the Bills’ second preseason game, I reached out to Ed Valentine, the editor-in-chief of Big Blue View, SB Nation’s G-Men blog, for some insight.

Here are my five questions, and Ed’s five answers:

Buffalo Rumblings: How long should we expect to see the Giants starts on the field in this one?

Big Blue View: That's a good question. I'm going to guess about a quarter. Eli Manning and Odell Beckham did not play in the preseason opener, and I know Manning wasn't thrilled about that. He wants snaps.

BR: What's the deal with Victor Cruz? Is he expected to see he field on Saturday? Will he be a big part of the Giants offense this season?

BBV: Cruz has a groin injury and has barely don e anything for the last week-and-a-half. I would be shocked to see him on the field Saturday. Right now, the question isn't how big a part of the offense will he be. The question is will he even make the team? That's a good question at this point. The Giants have a plethora of talented young receivers fighting for roster spots.

BR: The Giants invested heavily in their defense this offseason. Have the big signings -- like Olivier Vernon, Damon Harrison and Janoris Jenkins looked good so far in camp?

BBV: Vernon has been outstanding. He and Jason Pierre-Paul look like a dynamic pair of edge rushers. The Giants have not only been impressed by Vernon's play, but by his work ethic and by his potential to eventually become a leader.

Harrison has quickly become a fan favorite. More importantly, he combines with Johnathan Hankins at defensive tackle to dramatically change the run defense up the middle. Once a weakness, that duo makes it a strength.

Jenkins is as advertised. A guy who will compete, a guy who plays hard, a guy who can occasionally be exploited and surrender a big play, but also a guy who can create turnovers and will make his share of plays.

BR: Should we expect a skirmish between Odell Beckham Jr. and either Stephon Gilmore or Duke Williams?

BBV: I certainly hope not. I know there was some chippiness during last year's regular season game. I sincerely hope that doesn't carry over.

BR: Who’s one player that’s surprised this summer who could make an impact in the second half of this game?

BBV: Don't know if I can give you one. It's been an impressive summer for a lot of young Giants. Look at the wide receivers -- Rogers Lewis, Darius Powe, Anthony Dable, Tavarres King. Also, look at the defensive line -- particularly Owa Odighizuwa and Greg Milhouse.
