Buffalo Bills coaching search won’t feature Russ Brandon

The Bills President won’t be involved in the hiring process this time.

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

The Buffalo Bills are looking for a new head coach and one report from the Associated Press should make most fans of the team happy about the way the process will play out.

“I'm told Russ Brandon will not be involved in the Bills coach hiring process,” tweeted John Wawrow. “Decision is strictly with the Pegulas.”

Brandon has been a much-maligned figure as of late, taking the heat for the entirety of the Bills playoff drought in the minds of many fans, especially during his brief stint as nominal general manager in the 2000s. Brandon was team president during the hiring process for Rex Ryan and provided guidance for Kim and Terry Pegula, who were entering their first offseason as owners of the team.

The Bills previously announced general manager Doug Whaley will be leading the search to replace Ryan. Reports abound that Anthony Lynn is the strong favorite to land the job.
