We didn't see exactly what happened, but Sammy Watkins left the season finale against the New York Jets with what the team said was a hip injury. Watkins left the game with around six minutes remaining, and he did not return.
The 2014 first round pick missed eight games this season while recovering from a foot injury suffered in the offseason. On the day, he had 4 catches for 31 yards. He finished his disappointing 2016 regular season with 24 catches, 399 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
Injuries have been a problem for Watkins throughout his career with the Bills, as he has missed time each of the past two years. While he played all 16 games as a rookie, he did so while dealing with rib, groin, and hip injuries. He had surgery on his hip after his rookie season. In 2015, Watkins missed time with injuries to his calf and ankle.
Watkins will have plenty of time to heal up for the 2017 season.
