Buffalo Bills-Oakland Raiders inactives: Jordan Poyer, E.J. Gaines out

The Bills will be without two members of their starting secondary today

The Buffalo Bills had already ruled out three players for today’s matchup with the Oakland Raiders, so nearly half of today’s inactives were known well in advance of the team’s official announcement. The Raiders also had two players ruled out as of Friday, with another listed as doubtful. When adding suspended running back Marshawn Lynch to that group, there were few surprises on either inactive list for the day. Here are your Bills inactives:

TE Charles Clay

The good news is that Clay was on the practice field this week, stretching with his teammates and at least participating in some fashion for the first time since knee surgery after a week 5 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Although he is not ready to play today, he may be targeting the Thursday night game with the New York Jets (optimistically; more likely, he’ll look to suit up in week 10 against the New Orleans Saints) to return.

CB E.J. Gaines

The Bills starting right corner has missed time due to injury in every game this season, and a hamstring injury suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week will keep him out of this one today. Shareece Wright will need to be much better than he has been when replacing Gaines, as Oakland’s 1-2 combo of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree at wide receiver is one of the league’s best.

LB Ramon Humber

The veteran is once again out with a thumb injury suffered against the Atlanta Falcons. Rookie Matt Milano, who recorded his first career interception last week, will start for the third consecutive game.

FS Jordan Poyer

Although he was listed as questionable on Friday, Poyer had not practiced at all this week after suffering a knee injury towards the end of last week’s game against the Buccaneers. Poyer was on the field playing catch before the game, according to Mike Rodak, so maybe he’s looking to Thursday as a return date. Trae Elston will start at free safety in Poyer’s place.

OT Seantrel Henderson/Conor McDermott

Buffalo’s 4th and 5th offensive tackles won’t suit up this week. Cordy Glenn, Jordan Mills, and Dion Dawkins will man the outsides of the offensive line instead.

OG John Miller

Once again, Miller will sit and veteran Vlad Ducasse will start. With Miller inactive, any concern about Richie Incognito’s injury must be put to rest. Ryan Groy will serve as Buffalo’s lone interior line reserve.

Oakland’s inactives include starting safety and leading tackler Karl Joseph. They’ll be without cornerbacks David Amerson and Gareon Conley, quarterback Connor Cook, linebacker Marquel Lee, and offensive tackles David Sharpe and Jylen Ware.
