Buffalo Bills promote CB Greg Mabin, cut WR Philly Brown

The Buffalo Bills announced that they have promoted rookie cornerback Greg Mabin from the practice squad on Saturday. Starting cornerback E.J. Gaines has been questionable all week with a groin injury, and he downgraded from a limited participant to not practicing at all on Friday. The only other cornerbacks on the roster were Tre’davious White, nickel corner Leonard Johnson, and backup Shareece Wright, who had a back injury crop up during practice and was also listed as questionable for Sunday, thus necessitating Mabin’s addition.

To make room on the roster for Mabin, the Bills chose to cut wide receiver Philly Brown. Brown was signed this week after Jordan Matthews went under the knife for an injured thumb, but he ended up cut before he played a snap for the team. The remaining healthy receivers on the roster: Zay Jones, Andre Holmes, Kaelin Clay, and Brandon Tate. Special teams utility knife Joe Webb could also catch passes in a pinch.
