The Buffalo Bills made a massive decision this week to switch their QB1. Even though that is a bold move, it takes more than one man to win a game. These five Bills will have to step up when the fly to the West Coast to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
QB Nathan Peterman
What? you thought I was going to leave him off this list? The rookie has his hands full in his first NFL start. The Chargers have a top-10 pass defense this season, but they only have seven interceptions. If Peterman can protect the ball for most of the game and occasionally give Kelvin Benjamin a chance to go up and get one, he should be successful.
DT Deandre Coleman
The Bills run defense the past two weeks has been less than stellar. Lucky for the Bills, the remaining teams on their schedule pose pretty weak rushing attacks. Even going up against the 26th-ranked rushing offense in the NFL, the newly-signed run stuffer Coleman and the rest of the defensive line will have to show that the past two weeks were flukes.
WR Kelvin Benjamin
Benjamin started getting more targets last week after Peterman replaced Tyrod Taylor late in Sunday’s blowout loss. It seemed as though Peterman knew where the best receiver was on the field at all times and he wasn’t shy about trying to give it to him. Maybe that’s because there was nothing to lose, but I bet it continues this week.
RB LeSean McCoy
Just like the Bills run defense, the run offense has also struggled the last two weeks. With the exception of one run on Buffalo’s first drive last week, Shady was nowhere to be seen. The Chargers are the second worst rushing defense, so you would imagine McCoy will be able to get lose more than once this week. If he doesn’t, the Bills have some huge issues to fix.
LT Dion Dawkins
With starting LT Cordy Glenn going to miss another game with a foot injury, this position is of extreme importance. The Chargers have one of the best young pass rushers in Joey Bosa on their roster. You can expect Bosa to exploit this matchup a lot on Sunday. Dawkins needs to give Peterman time to throw the ball or else Bills fans everywhere will be in for a long afternoon.
