Buffalo Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin leaves game on cart with knee injury

The wideout took a hard hit to the knee

NFL: Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Chargers Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

On the Buffalo Bills’ first drive, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin made a catch resulting in a first down. The bad side to this play is that Benjamin stayed on the ground long after the whistle blew.

After making the catch from quarterback Nathan Peterman, Benjamin made his way into Los Angeles Chargers territory. Cornerback Adrian Phillips hit Benjamin with his shoulder directly on the top of Benjamin’s right knee. Benjamin tore his left ACL a few years ago while with the Carolina Panthers.

After being evaluated in the medical tent, Benjamin was taken on a cart to the locker room and ruled out for the rest of the game. To make matters worse, Jordan Matthews is already inactive for the game, leaving Buffalo short on receivers.

As if the first drive couldn’t get any worse, two plays later a pass tipped off the hands of fullback Patrick DiMarco and was intercepted and returned all the way for a Chargers TD.
