Kelvin Benjamin among inactives as Buffalo Bills take on New York Jets Thursday night

Benjamin will have the long week to prepare for New Orleans

The Buffalo Bills and their fans will wait another week for the debut of wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, as he has been ruled out of tonight’s contest against the New York Jets. There weren’t many surprises on the inactive list this week, as we already knew the majority of the names well in advance. Here are the inactives for the night.

WR Kelvin Benjamin

The Bills’ newest player has only been on the roster for a little over two days now, so it’s not tremendously surprising that he is inactive. It is a little disappointing, as we’d like to see the big man in action for the Bills, but we’ll just have to wait another week for that.

WR/KR/PR Brandon Tate

This one was a little surprising. Without Tate, Taiwan Jones will most likely return kicks and punts on the day, though Micah Hyde did punt returns earlier in the year. The Bills’ only wide receivers are Zay Jones, Jordan Matthews, Andre Holmes, and Deonte Thompson. Expect a healthy dose of two--tight end sets, especially if a receiver is injured.

TE Charles Clay

Buffalo’s top tight end will once again miss the game, although he appears to be inching ever-closer to returning. Perhaps he will be ready once the Bills host the New Orleans Saints next week at New Era Field? For now, Nick O’Leary will continue to start, with Logan Thomas slotting in as the second tight end.

CB E.J. Gaines

The Bills’ starting right cornerback will miss his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury. Veteran Shareece Wright will start in his place, with the recently-acquired Lafayette Pitts making his way onto the active roster as a result.

T Conor McDermott/Seantrel Henderson

Nothing to see here. The Bills will roll with Cordy Glenn, Jordan Mills, and Dion Dawkins as their active offensive tackles once again.

G John Miller

The former starting right guard sits again, having lost his job to veteran Vlad Ducasse. Ryan Groy serves as the interior line reserve.

Starting linebacker Ramon Humber and starting free safety Jordan Poyer are both active for the Bills, which is excellent news. As for the Jets, their inactives are as follows:
