After the Buffalo Bills fought valiantly in the first half of their game against the New England Patriots, they seem to have gotten a little more respect from the national media. They didn’t fall in any of the major rankings and even moved up a couple spots in some. In fact, one list even has the Bills as a better team than the Baltimore Ravens, who would help Buffalo out greatly with a loss this week.
In ESPN’s weekly power rankings the Bills moved up two spots from 17 to 15. ESPN also looked back at the projected win total of 6.5 for the Bills, which they have already surpassed.
In the weekly rankings put out by CBS, the Bills stayed steady at the 14 spot. CBS said the Bills playoff chances are all but dead, but it’s really not that tall of a task to get in heading into the final week of the season. It could be worse.
Bleacher Report has the Bills listed just outside the top 10, coming in at 11 this week, which is the highest ranking Buffalo received across the board.
In the NFL.com power rankings, the Bills dropped two places to 17. Although i’m not too sure the Bills defeat the Chargers regardless of who played quarterback, this is a consistent narrative in the national media. Elliot Harrison had this to say:
“The 8-7 Bills are going to win in Miami this week. So will the 8-7 Chargers against Oakland. Which means Peterman-gate -- a debacle that led to Buffalo losing the head-to-head tiebreaker to Los Angeles -- will keep this group from the postseason. Sigh.”
Finally, Sports Illustrated’s power rankings poll, the Bills hold steady at 17. The voters in this poll were pretty consistent. The lowest lowest vote the Bills received in the poll was at 19 and the highest was 15
