Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy carted off field with an ankle injury

Well, crap.

The Bills were hoping to slide into the playoffs with a razor-thin margin of error. Things got a lot harder for them on the opening drive of the second half. LeSean McCoy ran through a pile of linemen up the middle but came down limping and clearly in a lot of pain. He was carted off the field.

Bills Digest editor Mark Ludwiczak noted that two physical therapists he spoke with believed the injury to be a high ankle sprain - not a severe injury, but one with a long enough recovery time to effectively end McCoy’s season, even in the event of any playoffs.

McCoy was replaced in the lineup by Marcus Murphy, who was promoted from the practice squad this week in the wake of Travaris Cadet’s season-ending injury. Mike Tolbert is also active as a backup running back.

McCoy is a superstar running back, and has played a huge role in making the Bills offense look better than it is. This one hurts, especially because he was on the cusp of tasting the playoffs with Buffalo.
