On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills added wide receiver Jordan Matthews and defensive lineman Shaq Lawson to injured reserve with a knee and ankle injury, respectively, ending their seasons. To replace them on the roster the Bills have called up wide receiver Brandon Reilly and defensive end Cap Capi from the practice squad.
With the season over for Matthews, his time in Buffalo is likely finished, as well. Matthews, who was acquired in a trade during training camp, was only under contract for the 2017 season. This season he has totaled 25 catches for 282 yards and a touchdown through 10 games.
With Lawson heading to IR, it gives DE Eddie Yarbrough a chance to shine in the defense, like he did in training camp. The last four games are basically an audition for him to see if Beane and McDermott should keep him around for next year. Yarbrough has played well when given opportunities so far this season. with 27 tackles and one sack in limited action.
Reilly is a name that should intrigue Bills fans who saw him break out during the preseason. Perhaps he can show off enough to get a shot at the roster next training camp.
Capi was added to the practice squad a few weeks ago. He spent a month on the Giants roster this year before an injury led to his release.
