Most NFL fans will recognize the last name Seau due to Hall of Fame linebacker Junior Seau. The late superstar played for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots throughout his incredible career. His nephew, defensive end Ian Seau, was signed by the Buffalo Bills on April 10. Ian Seau will try to stick on the 53-man roster at a position that definitely lacks depth.
Name: Ian Seau
# 91
Position: DE
Height/Weight: 6’2”, 250 lbs.
Experience: 1
College: Nevada
Draft: UDFA in 2016 (signed by Los Angeles Rams and subsequently released)
Financial Situation (per Spotrac): Seau is currently signed to a 1 year contract worth $465,000.
2016 Recap: After making it through the Rams’ cut-down from 90 players to 75, Seau was axed when the team cut down to 53 players prior to the beginning of the 2016 season. He was unemployed until the Bills signed him in April.
Positional Outlook: Aside from Shaq Lawson and Jerry Hughes, the Bills are very thin at the defensive end position. Veteran defensive end Ryan Davis was signed to provide additional depth, but the remaining players competing for a roster spot are not at all locks to stick on the final roster.
2017 Offseason: There was little to be said about Seau’s performance in minicamp, although he was in attendance.
2017 Season Outlook: While a long-shot to make the roster, Seau is one of the more likely possibilities due almost exclusively to lack of depth at his position. If he has a strong camp and preseason, he could make the team as one of the last defensive linemen. It’s more likely, however, that he will be cut.
