How can the Buffalo Bills bolster safety depth?

Micah Hyde will be one of our starting safeties, and a leader on the defense. Great. Problem is, the coaching staff also want to use him in the slot and even covering corners on the outside, depending on the game situation.

Jordan Poyer was signed to be the other safety. He's been a part-time average starter for the Cleveland Browns, coming off a lacerated kidney. I'd rate him as iffy, with upside.

Colt Anderson is our special teams ace, and doesn't play much defense. Then, we have the likes of Shamiel Gary (whose name autocorrect to "Shambles," not a good sign), former arena player Joe Powell, another Cleveland guy Trae Elston, and UDFA BT Sanders. Maybe one of these guys will step up, but if they do, it will be for the first time at the NFL level.

We need one and maybe two new safeties. So, what to do? Here are some options.

1. Sign Leon Hall. This is my favorite, so I'm placing it first. Leon Hall is 32 years old, is 5'11 195lbs, and has played at a high level for ten NFL seasons with the Bengals and Giants. He's been a CB most of that time, but plays the slot and has been considered at safety by both the Bengals and Giants. The great thing about Hall is his versatility. He could start at either safety or slot, or could be the nickel and give us lots of flexibility. He'd also add great experience to a young secondary.

2. Sign Aaron Williams. Dudes, I don't want to see this guy get hit in the head again. That said, he's saying that he's healthy and has tried out for the Texans. What do his doctors say? It's unclear. If he's truly health and has no out-of-ordinary risks in playing, then I'd love to have him back. Dude bleeds Buffalo red, white, and blue, and he's good against the run and pass. Great locker room guy too. Only 27 years old.

3. Sign Corey Graham. Yeah, he took a few bad angles last year, and he also was out of place a few times on passes. Overall though, I thought he made many more good plays than bad plays, and I had the sense that he was trying to do too much once Aaron Williams went down. Anyways, he's at least as good as Poyer and better than the other guys. And can also play the slot.

4. Sign Jairus Byrd. Yeah, he's out there, and his dad is the Bills DB coach. Who knows -- maybe he only plays to Pro Bowl level when in a Bills uniform? He'd be much better than everyone but Hyde IMO.

Each of these guys would cost between 900k-1.4mil. Not much really.

5. Do nothing and hope for the best. Otherwise known as the Doug Whaley / Russ Brandon strategy. See: Safety depth, 2016.

What do you think the Bills should do?
