Sammy Watkins will be healthy for Buffalo Bills training camp, per report

The Bills wideout had surgery in January.

Sammy Watkins missed half of the Buffalo Bills’ 2016 recovering from a foot injury. He had a second surgery in January to correct the lingering pain issue and will be 100% when training camp opens July 27th.

“I am also told Bills WR Sammy Watkins will be 100% ready to go for training camp,” reports WIVB television report Shannon Shepherd while confirming news of a vist from free agent Anquan Boldin.

While this was always the expected outcome, it’s nice to know anyway. Watkins took first-team reps in June’s minicamp and he needs to prove he’s dependable if he is going to land a big contract next offseason in Buffalo or elsewhere.

This type of second surgery is not uncommon with this injury. Dez Bryant and Julian Edelman both returned to form after the same injury and two surgeries.

Watkins returns to the lineup as the leader of a super-thin receiving corps. Rookie Zay Jones is expected to compete for the other starting spot vacated by the departure of Robert Woods and a host of journeymen and unknowns are behind them. Boldin will be in town on Monday for a visit and could be the missing piece to a solid receiving corps.
