Cordy Glenn traveled to Wisconsin to meet with foot specialist Dr. James Anderson, who provided the Buffalo Bills stalwart with an injection in his ailing left foot. The injury was considered day-to-day, but McDermott has downgraded Glenn to week-to-week in light of this most recent round of treatment and ruled him out for Thursday’s preseason game.
The doctors are “hopeful,” according to the head coach, that Glenn will react well to this injection, and BuffaloBills.com reported that this measure is one meant to deal with the injury “once and for all.”
While Glenn has been sidelined, veteran Seantrel Henderson has worked with the first team protecting the blindside of quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Since Henderson is suspended for the first five games of the season, questions about Glenn’s replacement if he were to be unavailable for the season opener on September 10 continue to focus on rookie Dion Dawkins. McDermott said that the team has no plans to shift Dawkins from the right side of the offensive line to the left. Dawkins has been battling with Jordan Mills for the starting right tackle job. That would seem to leave Michael Ola, who is also battling an injury, and Cameron Jefferson to man Taylor’s back.
McDermott said that Dawkins received plenty of reps at the left tackle spot during the spring, which may be an indication that the team is already confident in his ability to step in at left tackle should Glenn’s injury sideline him for any length of time. It could also mean they want to keep him learning one thing as a rookie.
For now, the team will continue to hope that Glenn is ready to play against the New York Jets in 27 days.
