Anquan Boldin might be past his prime, but he can still give the Buffalo Bills a lot. Here’s a breakdown from this offseason by SB Nation’s Samuel Gold.
Short yardage and red zone situations are where Boldin excels. As the video shows, his stats on 3rd and short, in particular, are worthy of praise. He has an ability to separate from defenders and if he can develop a rapport with Tyrod Taylor, they can find the empty spots on the field. Boldin has the eyes and awareness to find the soft spot in the coverage.
Boldin was also used in the wide receiver screen game to get him the ball, as well as finding space in the middle of the field on crossing routes and slants. The latter two routes, in particular, have been problematic for Taylor and now we’ll see if it’s Tyrod or his receivers that are the reason.
While Boldin certainly has his limitations at this point in his career, he is going to be a valuable asset to the team.
