Houston Texans reportedly to hire Buffalo Bills VP Brian Gaine as new general manager

Buffalo’s current VP of Player Personnel is set to leave after only seven months on the job

The Buffalo Bills are reportedly losing a member of their front office. Brian Gaine, the club’s vice president of Player Personnel, is expected to be hired by the Houston Texans as their next general manager. He’s been the favorite from the get-go, says NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Gaine was hired by the Bills in May of 2017. From 2014-2016, he worked in the Texans’ front office, serving as their director of pro personnel in 2015 and 2016. He previously worked for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins over an 18-year career in scouting and front office work.

Aside from breaking the news of his hiring, Ian Rapoport also noted that Gaine has a solid working relationship with Houston’s head coach, Bill O’Brien, something that the coach and former Texans’ general manager Rick Smith reportedly do not have. While Smith was not relieved of his duties, he has taken a leave of absence to care for his wife, who is currently battling cancer.

Should the hiring become official, general manager Brandon Beane will need to work quickly to fill in his staff with offseason personnel moves forthcoming.
