Possible Trickle-down Effects of Losing Eric Wood

If you have any connection to social media, or unless you come right to the Fanpost section of BR and skip the front page, you have no doubt witnessed the sad end of a great Bill, and Curse-Slayer Eric Wood. And while it is important to take the time to honor his contributions, it has another rough effect in that it turns a former strength into a glaring weakness.

With all of the talk of using our bevy of picks to trade up for a QB, it is fair to wonder if this injury forces the team to improve the roster, as opposed to the idea of mortgaging these picks into a top selection for a QB. To be clear, I do not believe the Bills can trade up high enough to get Darnold/Rosen/Whoever, without giving up a tremendous amount of future, cheap talent.

If you can't get the QB you feel you need in the top 5, do you feel it would be better if Buffalo now addressed their ever growing list of roster deficiencies? Note that even before this injury, it would be close to a 50/50 split on fans who wanted to use all of the picks to trade up for a QB, or fill out the roster. Eric Wood's injury may have forced OBD's hand if they determine the number of holes (and perhaps more importantly where the roster holes now are) would be setting up a rookie for failure. And to be clear, cutting/trading Cordy Glenn compounded with Wood's retirement surely doesn't look good for a young QB.

Would the team be better off say, drafting Billy Price and a DT or falling QB prospect, then using 3 picks the following day? Maybe. Maybe they'd be better off sticking to the plan many of us have laid out for them and trading up for the QB they want regardless of what the rest of the roster looks like right now. For the first time since I began writing Fanposts, I'm honestly not sure what the correct answer is.

For now, we honor Eric Wood, but tomorrow there are more difficult decisions to make. Godspeed, Eric.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
