Can you even have a Super Bowl party without wings?
SB Nation is rounding up the best Super Bowl meals this week from around our stable of NFL blogs, and I can’t write an article about a food other than wings. A plate of chicken wings is the best Super Bowl meal. Period.
According to the National Chicken Council, “the concept of cooking wings in peppery hot sauce was born in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, when co-owner Teressa Bellissimo cooked leftover wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. The guys liked them so much that the Bellissimos put them on the menu the next day. Served with celery slices and bleu cheese sauce, ‘Buffalo Wings’ were an instant hit.”
You’ve probably heard that story before, but it’s always worth remembering that the greatest food for any Super Bowl party is the wing.
If you don’t want to buy some wings and bake, deep fry, or air fry them this weekend, drop some check breasts into your slow cooker and add hot sauce for an easy shredded chicken dish that is healthy and delicious.
The only question is, what’s your favorite sauce? I’m as classicist and go with Red Hot and butter for mine. What do you use?
