Buffalo Bills vs. Indianapolis Colts: first half open thread

Derek Anderson makes his Buffalo debut on the road

Derek Anderson is starting at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. The Indianapolis Colts will look to capitalize on the veteran’s rustiness, as Anderson only signed with the Bills twelve days ago.

Anderson spent the last seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers, and he threw 157 passes in that time span. He hasn’t started a game since Week 12 of the 2016 season (and in that game, he only started because Cam Newton didn’t wear a necktie on the team flight—yes, seriously—and he threw one pass, which was intercepted, before Newton replaced him). Anderson has not started and finished a game since October 10, 2016, a 17-14 loss against the Atlanta Falcons in which Anderson threw for 278 yards and 2 interceptions.

Josh Allen will watch from the sidelines this week after suffering an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow. Ray-Ray McCloud III, who muffed a punt and fumbled a kick return in last week’s 20-13 loss to the Houston Texans, will not travel with the Bills for undisclosed, non-injury reasons.

As if all of the change in Buffalo wasn’t enough, veteran place kicker Adam Vinatieri only needs to score 10 points today in order to become the NFL’s all-time leading scorer.

There will be plenty to discuss today, and your first-half thread is the place to begin those discussions. Enjoy the game, folks—go Bills!
