Buffalo Bills injury report: Tremaine Edmunds closer to return following Thursday practice

Kelvin Benjamin, Andre Holmes return to practice, Tremaine Edmunds in final stages of concussion protocol

As the Buffalo Bills (2-7) prepare to face their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets (3-6) for the first time this year, several key members of the team were upgraded during Thursday’s practice session.

The biggest news was at linebacker, where rookie Tremaine Edmunds took another step forward in his return from a concussion, wearing the blue jersey that signified he’s allowed to have contact in practice. That shows that Edmunds is in the final step of the league’s concussion protocol. If he passes his test following today’s practice, he will be a full participant Friday and be clear of the concussion protocol.

Wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin (knee) and Andre Holmes (neck) were full practice participants, one day after being limited with their injuries. Benjamin pulled himself out of practice on Wednesday after tweaking the knee.

Running back Chris Ivory (shoulder) returned to practice as a limited participant following his shoulder injury and trip to the Erie County Medical Center on Sunday.

In other injury-related news, rookie QB Josh Allen was limited at practice for the second straight day as he recovers from an elbow sprain, while fellow QB Derek Anderson (concussion) was once again sidelined as he works his way back from the league’s concussion protocol. At this point, it’s unlikely he will be able to play on Sunday due to the multi-step nature of the protocol.

Tight end Charles Clay (hamstring) and defensive end Trent Murphy (knee) sat out practice for another day, also putting their status for Sunday’s AFC East clash in jeopardy.

Buffalo travels to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. for a Week 10 showdown with the Jets, the first of two meetings this year.
