Buffalo Bills vs. Detroit Lions: first half open thread

New, comments

A December home game where the outcome means little

NFL: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

When the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions kick off today, both teams will be playing for pride only. The Bills have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, and while the Lions are technically still alive, they would need a whole lot of help over the last three weeks of the season in order to qualify.

Detroit has declared five layers out for this afternoon’s game, as the banged-up Lions limp to the end of the season. Buffalo is dealing with plenty of injuries, as well, after a particularly physical contest against the New York Jets last weekend.

With both teams looking to end the season on positive notes, the biggest thing to watch today for Buffalo will be Josh Allen’s continued growth. Facing off against a Detroit defense designed by head coach Matt Patricia, a disciple of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, the rookie will certainly face a stiff test.

Your first half open thread is here, folks. Hopefully, our discussion is all about how well Allen is playing, as that will give us all something to look forward to heading into next year. Enjoy your Sunday, all—go Bills!
