Free agent cornerback Vontae Davis signs with Buffalo Bills

Vontae Davis has announced on Twitter that he is planning on signing with the Buffalo Bills. The free agent cornerback made the announcement Monday night, simply tweeting “#BillsMafia”. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports it’s a one-year deal for the former Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins defensive back.

UPDATE (8:56 PM): The team has officially announced the signing via their website.

The move almost certainly means he will be paired with Tre’Davious White as the starting cornerbacks for the Bills. E.J. Gaines, who was traded to Buffalo as part of the deal that sent Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams, will likely not return as the cash-strapped Bills probably had to choose between the free agents.

Davis is allowed to sign before the end of the league year because he was released by the Indianapolis Colts in November following an injury. He was not on a roster since and missed the entire year.

Davis made the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2015 with the Colts after being traded by the Dolphins in the 2012 offseason.

A former first-round pick, Davis chose Buffalo after visiting a bunch of other NFL teams in the past week.
