According to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Buffalo Bills will be hosting cornerback Phillip Gaines sometime this week on a free-agent visit. Gaines is a former third-round selection of the Kansas City Chiefs, where he has spent his entire NFL career.
In four seasons in Kansas City, Gaines started 16 of the 41 games he appeared in, making 90 tackles, with one interception and 14 passes defended. Gaines did end the 2017 season on injured-reserve, after dislocating his elbow in the season finale against the Denver Broncos.
Should he sign with the Bills, Gaines would likely add depth at the position following the free agent losses of E.J. Gaines (Cleveland Browns) and Shareece Wright (Oakland Raiders). Tre’Davious White and Vontae Davis are currently pencilled in as the Bills starters, which would have Gaines competing for a backup role in Buffalo.
It was also reported that Gaines visited the Indianapolis Colts this week, before deciding to make his next free agent visit to Buffalo.
