NFL Draft: Monday’s NFL Combine open thread

The final day of the combine on-field workouts features the defensive backs. Come talk about it with all of us!

Today is the final day of the 2018 NFL Combine, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Eastern. You can view it live on the NFL Network or at NFL.com’s combine hub, starting with the 40-yard dash. Today we’ll see the safeties and cornerbacks perform.

Cornerback is a position highly dependent on speed, so most of the attention will be go to the player’s 40-yard dash times. Analysts have already been speculating about what time Donte Jackson is about to put up, but former Buckeye Denzel Ward will put up some good competition. Isaiah Oliver is a dark horse candidate to run the fastest 40 time as well. The corners that will end up excelling at the short shuttle and the 3-cone drill need to have loose hips and short area bust, so players like DJ Reed and Jaire Alexander should do well.

Headlining the safety position will be Derwin James and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Both will be first round picks and both are top-end athletes at the position that will finish well in most events. This is a deep class for strong safeties so the bench press should be quite competitive. It should be a three-way competition between Marcus Allen, Kyzir White and Terrell Edmunds.

Below are the average times from the 2017 combine for today’s relevant positions. Be sure to bear these in mind while watching the individual timed drills:
