The Buffalo Bills overpaid to move up and select Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft. According to both trade charts, Buffalo didn’t get a great deal but they got a quarterback they apparently coveted and that’s worth it in the grand scheme of things if he works out.
The Bills traded picks 12, 53, and 56 for picks 7 and 255 (7th round).
According to the Jimmy Johnson trade chart, Buffalo gave up 1200 + 370 + 340 for 1910 total points and received 1500 in return, but got the quarterback they wanted.
The new chart, shown here from our friends at PatsPulpit, shows Buffalo gave up 346.51 + 106.31 + 98.27 for 551.09 points and received 426.64 in return. They also note that you throw everything out the window for a trade into the top 10, especially for a quarterback.
The Bills will still have a full compliment of draft picks, substituting a second 2018 first rounder for their second rounder. Seven round, eight picks.
