The Buffalo Bills have traded up again in the 2018 NFL Draft’s first round to select Virginia Tech Tremaine Edmunds. They got their quarterback on the offense and now their quarterback on the defense. Buffalo traded picks 22 and 65 (third round) for the 16th overall pick and 154 (fifth round).
“Edmunds is one of the most physically gifted linebackers of the past few years,” says Buffalo Rumblings draft contributor Andrew Griffin. “He’s tall, long, and fast and has a similar athletic profile to Anthony Barr. He’s at his best when he can be kept clean by the linemen in front of him attack downhill gaps. While he’s still learning the mental aspects of the position and needs more experience on the field, he has Pro Bowl, elite potential.”
Edmunds is the first teenager taken in the NFL Draft since 2007 (Amobi Okoye) and turns 20 next month. He’s set to replace Preston Brown as the team’s middle linebacker. Brown led the league in tackles in 2017 but departed for a low-end one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.
