For those of you that follow me on Twitter, you have likely heard my motto before when it comes to Buffalo Bills jerseys; do not buy them. I have learned the hard way through a number of investments. Some of these have worked out OK, while others have left me scratching my head. It is a risk that all NFL fans taken when making an investment in a new jersey, and plenty of Bills fans have stories they can share about some regrettable purchases.
My Jim Kelly and Eric Moulds jerseys will always be a a great fit, as two of the best to ever suit up for the team. My Doug Flutie and James Lofton jerseys were also worth the investment, until father time got the best of each of them. On the other hand, my Marcell Dareus and Paul Posluszny jerseys continue to collect dust, and do nothing but take up space at the bottom of my closet.
Everyone has a bit of a tragic jersey story, with many of them being on display at New Era Field on Sunday afternoons. A short walk through the stands will lead to plenty of sightings of Sammy Watkins, Mario Williams, C.J. Spiller, Marshawn Lynch and Tyrod Taylor jerseys. If you look hard enough you are sure to spot a few Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Fitzpatrick jerseys on display.
In most situations the investment in the jersey seems like a fantastic idea. The player is a first round draft pick and many fans get caught up in the excitement. Or a big free agent signing, like Williams, is poised to be the focal point of the team’s resurgence. Unfortunately there are too many stories of regret when it comes to purchasing jerseys - especially for Bills fans.
I am sure that many of you reading this article have purchased one of the jerseys listed above. How many people received a new Tyrod Taylor jersey for Christmas this year? And who can forget the famed number swap of 2011 when Spiller switched numbers with Leodis McKelvin?
Many Bills fans have a story about a jersey purchase gone wrong, and be sure to share your story in the comments section below. Hopefully your stories have more stories of purchases around Kyle Williams and Tre’Davious White jerseys as opposed to Stephon Gilmore and EJ Manuel.
