Bills vs. Panthers: Game ball recipients for the preseason opener

New, comments

The first-team offense showed out for the Bills.

NFL: Carolina Panthers at Buffalo Bills Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Last night the Buffalo Bills lost their first preseason game to the Carolina Panthers. There were a few standout players that performed well. Multiple offensive players came to play and were highly productive for the short time they were on the field.

Quarterback Nathan Peterman

Peterman was the starter for the game and played the first three series for the Bills. He went 9-10 with 119 yards, a touchdown and an interception on a poorly-placed ball that was tipped by backup running back Chris Ivory. Peterman did a good job of getting the ball out of his hand on time and meshed with his receivers.

Wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin

Even though it’s only a preseason game, Benjamin showed up with a chip on his shoulder after his comments on the Panthers organization the past week. Benjamin caught four passes from Peterman for 59 yards and a touchdown, including a ball tight to the sideline to move the chains on third down. Benjamin got a taste of being lined up in the slot as well, a new wrinkle that Bills’ offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has thrown in.

Running back Marcus Murphy

Murphy is fighting for a spot on the roster as the third running back. If he continues to perform the way he did last night then there should be a spot for him. Murphy had seven carries for 35 yards and a touchdown while also contributing as a receiver out of the backfield. He caught four passes for 30 yards.
