The Buffalo Bills were on the practice field again Monday morning at St. John Fisher College. Some fun storylines are spring up, injuries are becoming more frequent, and another scuffle highlight today’s recap.
Injury updates a big story
Receiver Zay Jones was in a blue full-contact jersey for the first time this season following knee surgery. Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei returned to practice following his injury in the preseason opener. AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman were both full participants after suffering minor injuries in Sunday’s practice.
On the flip side, McCarron came up limping following a scramble but refused help from trainers, instead choosing to walk it off. Defensive end Trent Murphy, who missed last week with a groin injury, was speaking to trainers during practice about the same injury and didn’t return.
DT Marquavius Lewis and WR Brandon Reilly were the only players not participating. FB Zah Olstead left practice with trainers.
Quarterback rotation continues
McCarron was back with the first-team after Peterman was the starter on Sunday. For the first time, though, Josh Allen took second-team reps today. Allen had been working with the third-team and first-team exclusively this training camp.
Also of note, Allen was with center Ryan Groy during individual drills at the beginning of practice. Russell Bodine was with McCarron while Peterman had third-team option Adam Redmond.
It wasn’t a great day for the signal callers.
Receivers showing up
Zay Jones and Corey Coleman were both singled out for great catches on Monday. Tight end Jason Croom even got in on the action, digging out a low throw. Croom, the former receiver, has been split out wide and has been taking first-team reps.
Another day, another scuffle
One day after Kyle Williams engaged with Jordan Mills, Zay Jones and Micah Hyde got into it with Jordan Poyer coming to Hyde’s aide on Monday. Hyde’s helmet was thrown during the argument according to Mike Rodak. The dog days of training camp are here.
Jones was running his route. Hyde covering him. The ball never went his way, but he turned around and had some words for Hyde. They got helmet to helmet and started going at it.
