One day after the Buffalo Bills lost their third preseason game to the Cincinnati Bengals, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW reported that Bills receiver Brandon Reilly broke his rib during the first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
Reilly has been on the outside looking in on the roster for the past two training camps. After good production in the 2017 preseason, Reilly remained on the practice squad for nearly the whole season (he was called up late, but did not dress for any games). At the very least, he has earned another year on the practice squad, as well as a shot to make the 53-man roster this season.
So far this preseason, Reilly only has two catches for a total of 82 yards. There aren't a lot of open spots on the roster at the receiver position. The first four spots are likely taken with Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones, Jeremy Kerley and Corey Coleman. After those four, the spot or spots for the receiver group is wide open.
Between Andre Holmes, Ray-Ray McCloud III, Reilly, Rod Streater and others, the last preseason game against the Chicago Bears will be a vital one for the wide receivers trying to make the 53-man roster.
