2018 Buffalo Bills scouting report: kicker Stephen Hauschka

New, comments

Hausch-money looks to build on an excellent 2017 season

Kicking in Orchard Park is no easy task. The swirling winds at New Era Field have caused headaches for many a kicker. It’s especially impressive, then, when a kicker for the Buffalo Bills is not only trusted to take long field goals, but he makes them with regularity.

In our latest installment of “90 players in 90 days,” we profile Buffalo’s outstanding placekicker.

Name: Stephen Hauschka

Number: 4

Position: K

Height/Weight: 6’4” 210 lbs.

Age: 33

Experience: 10

College: NC State

Draft: Signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent following the 2008 NFL Draft

Financial situation (per Spotrac): Hauschka enters the second year of a four-year contract he signed with Buffalo in March of last year. The total value of the contract is $8.85 million, and his 2018 cap hit is $3 million.

2017 Recap: Hauschka was phenomenal in his first season with the Bills. He made 29 of his 33 field goals, including a career-high (and Bills team record) seven from beyond 50 yards. He also was perfect on extra points, hitting all 29 of his attempts. He also handled kickoff duties, and exactly half of his attempts (37/74) went for touchbacks.

Positional outlook: Hasuch-money is Buffalo’s kicker. The team has rookie Tyler Davis in camp as well, but the job is Hauschka’s.

2018 Offseason: Hauschka has continued to impress at training camp, and he has participated in all offseason activities to date.

2018 season outlook: If Hauschka can repeat his 2017 performance this season, the Bills will once again have an elite option in the kicking game. When a kicker can hit from 50-yards consistently, it takes pressure off the offense. Any time the Bills cross midfield, they are a threat to score thanks to their kicker.
