Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott told reporters before Sunday's practice that second-team receiver Zay Jones would return to practice today. He had been on the Non-Football Injury list since having knee surgery this offseason.
Jones was originally placed on the NF-I list following surgery to repair a deep laceration under his kneecap in May. We speculated he was close to a return a week ago when he was seen doing full speed workouts.
His injury occurred in a bizarre March incident, when he kicked through a window in a hotel while naked and ranting. He was arrested but no charges were filed and he wasn't disciplined by the league.
Jones joins a crowded wide receiver race, with almost every receiver in the roster seeing first-team reps during training camp opposite Kelvin Benjamin. McDermott said the receivers behind Benjamin will have to play special teams, something Jones didn't do much of last season.
The wide receiver won't be a full go on Sunday. McDermott said Jones will wear a red non-contact jersey today.
