Buffalo Bills fantasy football recap: Josh Allen leads the way

The rookie quarterback is Buffalo’s top scorer through two weeks

The 0-2 Buffalo Bills are not exactly a popular roster to mine for fantasy football talent. However, after last week’s 20-point showing against the Los Angeles Chargers, there are signs that indicate there are some players who may become useful as the season progresses.

Just a week after the team’s leading scorer was a backup quarterback who totaled only 5.56 points, the Bills had six players surpass that total against the Chargers. Zay Jones caught 2 passes for 63 yards, with the majority of that total coming on a 57-yard bomb from Allen in the second quarter. He was fifth on the team with 7.3 fantasy points on the afternoon.

LeSean McCoy also had a better day, though it still wasn’t up to his usual standard. McCoy had 9 carries for 39 yards, 27 of which came on one third-quarter jaunt. He added 4 receptions for 29 yards, good for 8.8 fantasy points.

Kelvin Benjamin caught 2 of 3 targets for 19 yards and a touchdown during fourth quarter garbage time action. That stat line was good for an 8.9-point day for Benjamin, who is not performing well in a contract year. Granted, the Bills’ quarterback situation isn’t doing anyone any favors, but Benjamin’s performance has still been disappointing.

Here were the top three Bills in fantasy scoring for Week two:

QB Josh Allen

The rookie tops the list for the second week in a row, coming in at 15 fantasy points on the day. He threw for 245 yards and a touchdown, adding 32 rushing yards. He also threw 2 interceptions on the day, meaning that his day could have been even better. While Allen is by no means a must-play in fantasy, you could certainly do worse than him when bye weeks start rolling. Allen is available in 98% of Yahoo! leagues.

RB Chris Ivory

One of two backups to LeSean McCoy, the veteran Ivory capitalized on a short-yardage opportunity to score the first Bills touchdown of the season. While he could remain a touchdown vulture for McCoy even when Shady, who suffered cracked rib cartilage in the loss on Sunday, is fully healthy, he might be a smart add for the time being while McCoy overcomes the injury. Ivory carried the ball twice for only 7 total yards, but one of those totes was a 1-yard scoring plunge. He added 1 reception for 30 yards on the afternoon to bring his fantasy point total to 10.2 for the day. Available in 95% of Yahoo! leagues, he might be a popular add this week if McCoy misses practice time.

K Stephen Hauschka

Buffalo’s kicker bounced back after a rough Week one. He made two longer field goals, hitting from 43 and 40 in the first half, so if your league awards extra points for those kicks, then each field goal was worth 4 fantasy points instead of 3. He added 2 extra points, good for a 10-point day overall. That’s not a bad number from the kicker slot, and it was good for fourth at his position this week. If your fantasy kicker is the injured Greg Zuerlein (like me), you’d be wise to add Hauschka if your league is among the 97% of Yahoo! leagues where he is available.
