The Buffalo Bills closed out the 2018 NFL season by absolutely demolishing a demoralized Miami Dolphins squad, winning 42-17 in Kyle Williams’s final game with the squad. The Bills dominated each phase of the game, with an offense that appeared unstoppable at times, a defense that was outstanding, and a special teams that was...well, it was slightly less bad than Miami’s special teams.
If your fantasy football league had a Week 17 championship game, you definitely wanted some Bills players on your side. If you’re a daily fantasy player through various outlets, there were some great bargains on Buffalo players that could have helped you to win a few units.
Here were the top performances of the final week of the regular season.
QB Josh Allen
Not only was Buffalo’s rookie signal-caller the top fantasy scorer in this match-up, but he was also the top fantasy scorer in the entire NFL for Week 17. Allen accounted for 319 total yards (for reference, the Bills had 381 total yards as a team) and five touchdowns in what was arguably his best performance as a professional. He completed 17-of-26 passes on the day, good for a 65.3% completion rate. He had 224 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He also carried the ball nine times for 95 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Two of his carries were kneel-downs. Yes, he threw a terrible interception at the end of the first half that temporarily gave the Dolphins life, but my favorite part about that situation was the way in which Allen handled it. Rather than losing confidence, he came back on the ensuing drive (the draw play to go into halftime notwithstanding) and led a ten-play, 78-yard touchdown drive. On that drive, Allen was three-for-six for 40 yards and a touchdown, adding a 35-yard scramble of his own. Allen’s progress was on full display Sunday, and he scored 41.46 fantasy points in the game.
WR Zay Jones
Buffalo’s number-one receiver in name was also their number-one receiver on the field Sunday. Jones turned in one of his best games as a pro, hauling in six passes (on nine targets) for 93 yards and two touchdowns. His yardage total tied a career-high, which he set against the New York Jets in Week 10 this season. The game was the second multi-touchdown game of the season for Jones, a feat he also accomplished against the Dolphins in Miami. Jones scored 24.3 points on the week, which was good for the fourth-highest total in the NFL.
Buffalo D/ST
The Bills had a fantastic game defensively, allowing only 11 points on the afternoon (six points didn’t count against them, since they came via a Josh Allen pick-six). The Bills also managed to come up with four turnovers—two interceptions and two fumble recoveries—and four sacks on the day. Tremaine Edmunds was a beast, coming up with a sweet one-handed interception and a sack to go with his 12 tackles. Shaq Lawson had two sacks and a forced fumble. Tre’Davious White managed his second interception of the year before leaving the game with an injury in the second quarter. Overall, the Buffalo defense closed the season on a very high note, scoring 16 fantasy points for the week. That total was good for a tie for fifth among all team defenses for the final week of the fantasy football season.
